Candy Coffins’ Jame Lathren
What’s the first album you remember loving as a kid?
Hands down it was KISS Alive II. For me the theatrics were the focus. The music almost seemed like an afterthought. However, I was and still am a fan of “Shock Me” and Ace’s extended solo on that album.
What was the first album you bought with your own money?
I grew up in several smaller towns in the Southeast, most of which didn’t even have record stores. When I finally realized that I could control my listening destiny away from the commercial drone of the radio, the only place I had to turn was . . . K-Mart. I purchased Prince’s Purple Rain, ensuring that the corners were not bent and the cellophane was pristine.
What was the first local band that caught your ear?
When I moved here in 2004, the first band that caught my ear for the music, energy and potential was The Heist And The Accomplice. I saw them play at Art Garage and I was really impressed that these four high schoolers were so together – the songs were clever and pulled you in, and they were obviously well rehearsed.
What’s the most recent album you bought or have been listening to lately?
While doing some spelunking for new musical intrigue on the internet I stumbled upon Croatian Amor. These pieces really grabbed me with how they seemed to embody the dystopian malfunction of life. I have gone on to explore more of the Posh Isolation label which has led me to additional quality work, consistent in tone and imagery to Croatian Amor.
I saw that you teased a photo of a vinyl test pressing on Facebook. What does Candy Coffins have on the horizon that fans might be excited about?
On Monday, 12/3 we released our second single “Axis Tilt And Spin” digitally at candycoffins.bandcamp.com.
This Saturday, 12/8, we are turning our show at the State Street Pub with Turbo Gatto and The Ectomorphs into a 7-inch release party because our limited edition vinyl containing “Images On The Screen” and “Axis Tilt And Spin” is ready and we will have it available there!
In addition to continuing to play out regionally, the new year will also entail us shooting a video for “Axis Tilt And Spin.”
