The number 222 continues to follow and guide Susto frontman Justin Osborne and company with their third full length album Ever Since I Lost My Mind dropping 2-22-19, with the first single “Homeboy” out now. “Homeboy” and the announcement of the new album comes just on the heels of the band’s announcement that they’re signing to Rounder Records.
In the premiere by Paste Magazine Osborne speaks to the meaning behind “Homeboy.”
I kind of found myself on the other side of the fence, the people in town being like โOk I wanna get out of here. I want to see it from the other side.โ And at the same time experiencing this profound homesickness, or FOMO, because I love what I do, and I am so glad I get to do it, but some of my friends were spending their last days in town when I was gone. So I felt like this era was ending, and I was already gone. So itโs kind of a reflection of that, of just wanting change in your life and making that change happen. And also once you get there, looking back and seeing where you came from. And sometimes the grass looks greener ahead, and sometimes the grass looks greener behind, and I think the song just kind of goes on both sides.
“Homeboy” doesn’t explore new territory sonically for the band, but presents all the bands strengths with Osborne’s lyrical imagery and ability to bury a hook in your brain. The song grooves and builds with a big grungy chorus pushing the fringes of their alt country branding.
The band’s third album was produced by Ian Fitchuck, who produced Kasey Musgrave’s widely acclaimed 2018 release Golden Hour with input from longtime friend and creative partner Wolfgang Zimmerman.
