Shovels and Rope
Back with their first release since 2017′s Busted Jukebox Volume 2, Charleston based Shovels and Rope dropped “The Wire”, the lead single from their upcoming album out 4/12/19. “The Wire” focuses in on Shovels and Rope strengths, with pounding drums and buzzing guitars side by side with a classic melody belted out only the way Cary Ann Hearst can.
Beach Tiger
Beach Tiger is officially back with their new three song EP out now on Coast Records. It’s a breezy coastal listen, all from the creative mind of Taylor McCleskey who is now the sole member of the band.
Pierce Koichi
With Pierce Koichi’s new EP due out this week, Koichi released the first single “Party” last Friday. It’s a slow burning song from the talented young songwriter, whose voices floats delicately and hypnotically over low humming synth and a beat that doesn’t drive the song, but holds it together.
Susto
The songs keep coming from Susto’s new album out 2/22/19. “Weather Balloons” sounds like the hit, and does stand out from the rest of the album.
Taylor McCall
I’ve had a buy or sell relationship with country music lately, specifically the kind that’s labeled authentic. Like, I’m buying Brent Cobb and selling Tyler Childers and Chris Stapleton. Not a popular take on the last two, but hey, that’s how it is for me. So far, I’m buying Taylor McCall and his new EP out now.
When I Say Jump
Columbia DIY punk rockers When I Say Jump released their new album Seperation Anxiety last week and follow it up with a release show January 29th at New Brookland Tavern. The album hits hard, quick, and heavy with a sound that’s classic at this point, but not heard so much on the modern front.
Dixie Dave Allen
Dixie Dave Allen hailing from the Dark Corner of South Carolina, plays the type of music native to that area and Appalachia. Not only that, he’s willing to teach the style to others. Honestly, if you don’t grow up around it playing it on porches, or at a family reunion, it’s a hard style to pass on. This album is a great listen for those wanting that old country style.
Midi Mark
Midi Mark dropped the 5th installment in his Prolific series featuring 5 lush, smooth, and grooving instrumental tracks. Each song burns steady and is provokes emotion in different ways.
Videos
Daddy Lion
Daddy Lion have been a role when it comes to videos, and they’re back at it with “Mother Ship. ” Dressed as super heroes, the band takes to the streets of Columbia, carrying their flag straight down Main. The video has it all, from coordinated dance moves, to a scenic view of the city.
J.S. Terry
J.S. Terry stays on Pablo esthetic with their new video for “the unmistakable sound of a heart beating in love from their upcoming album And You Loom Over Me Like a Mountain. It’s a beautiful video and song, shot with quick cuts of friends and the Upstate South Carolina, Western North Carolina countryside. This is also one of our most anticipated albums of the year.
