Catch The Runout Thursday 5/23 at New Brookland Tavern with Human Resources and Cayla Fralick as they celebrate the release of their new album Ready or Not out 5/24.
What’s the first album you remember loving as a kid?
Jeff – Simon and Garfunkel Live in Central Park.
Travis – James Taylor greatest hits
Dan– The Allman Brothers Band – A Decade of Hits 1969-1979… it was years before I realized a guitar solo could be less than seven minutes long.
Gavin– Blues Brothers “Briefcase Full of Blues”
What as the first album you bought with your own money?
Jeff – The Black Crowes – Shake your Money Maker. The whole thing is a masterpiece, and track 8 may have been one of the most influential songs of my youth.
(but it was really Debbie Gibson – Out of the Blue…I was 8)
Travis – Embarrassingly – Mariah Carey mtv unplugged
Dan – Damien Rice’s “O” and Bob Dylan’s “Blood on the Tracks,” both from the same awesome haul at Circuit City
Gavin “Creedence Clearwater Revival Anthology”
What was the first local band that caught your ear?
Jeff – The Sea Wolf Mutiny
Travis – Doc Summers Band
Dan – The Heist and the Accomplice
Gavin– Can’t name just one- through the years I’ve really enjoyed Erich Skelton’s stuff, Ben Walker, Rejectioneers, Hunter Duncan’s song writing has always been my favorite
What’s the most recent album you bought or have been listening to lately?
Jeff – Human Resources – Champagne/ Cayla Fralick – Anyway Here/ War on Drugs – A Deeper Understanding
Travis – Yola – Walk Through Fire and Mandolin Orange – Tides of a Teardrop
Dan – Phil Cook – As Far As I Can See
Gavin– Ruston Kelly- Dying Star / Raveena- Shanti/ Donny Hathaway Live album
Any other news or upcoming releases for 2019?
Jeff – Our first full length album, “Ready or Not” is coming out this week. (May 24th). We’re giddy.
After the release show, I’m looking forward to doing more writing for The Runout with a couple of fun shows scheduled as well before the end of summer. Also exploring some other music projects with Youth Model, Chris Compton, and my wife, Kelley.
Travis – I’ve started some music on the side with my wife (Ashley Wright and the Vance Gap Ramblers). We will be recording in Asheville in July and plan to release it before the end of the year.
Dan – My family and I are actually moving to Chapel Hill in July, so I can start my doctorate in Social Work. Columbia is home though, and I can’t go too long without playing with these guys, so I imagine I’ll be making the trip back for occasional shows if they let me.
Gavin – Nothing new for me. I’d still like to start a neo soul cover band with some friends. It’s just an itch I need to scratch. Maybe that will come to fruition this fall.
