Ben Walker — Where Do We Go?

As the I Love My Friends sessions near their close, this week’s installment turns to Ben Walker, who performs “Where Do We Go?” in honor of Aaron Graves.

“Aaron had such a great way of pulling people in and making them feel like family,” Walker says. “I remember catching wind of the Fork & Spoon guys. They were a few years younger than me and they were doing really cool stuff for music and the community.”

Walker first connected with Graves in September 2013, when Aaron reached out to record a Casual Friday session. Walker wanted to play “Where Do We Go?,” a song he says has always been hard for him to perform.

“I sat on my amp in Aaron’s living room and fumbled through it a dozen times,” Walker says. “He just kept telling me that he loved it and that every take was good, but we could do another if I wanted.”

For Walker, returning to the song for this project felt fitting.

“I guess Aaron just had a gentle way of loving things the way they were,” he says. “It only seemed fitting to fumble through this song again in front of a painting of him on the brick wall of a restaurant that I also love. And it was an honor to be a part of this too.”
