I feel like this Festival is the best kept secret in South Carolina and in a way I want it to stay that way. This year is the 14th Annual Albino Skunk Bluegrass Festival in Blue Ridge, SC.
Albino Skunk Fest is known for debuting talented artists a couple of years before I catch on. In 2004 The Avett Brothers played middle of the pack on Saturday night and in 2005 one of my favorite bands of all time The Everybodyfields played. Now both of these bands are the toast of the town touring all over the place.
So I am sad to say it, but a lot of you have been missing out on an awesome festival for all of these years.
Here are some details about Skunk Fest.
For those of you not familiar with the Albino Skunk Bluegrass Festival, here’s a brief description: it’s a semi-private party held on the grounds of Glynn and Susan Zeigler’s place north of Greer. It got its name from the sightings of Albino Skunks (white with dark stripe) on the grounds.
We send out flyers to past SkunkFans on our mailing list and also welcome other bluegrass music loving folks that hear about us. The ASBF is put on totally by volunteers and we welcome your help. Please contact us via the website to volunteer or check in at the Store. We gratefully acknowledge all those who help, we truly could not put on this great unique event without our dedicated volunteers!
Bring either ground cloths or lawn chairs. Low beach-type chairs work best. Also, a flashlight would be handy.
We provide BBQ chicken, pork and deep-fried turkey with BBQ beans and Cole slaw on Saturday afternoon, starting at about 4:00.
Warning: We have to guess how many SkunkFans will show up. We prepare plenty of food but cannot guarantee we won’t run out.
Soft drinks and coffee are also provided. Please bring your own beer or wine and behave yourself. -the SkunkFest is a family shindig.
SkunkFans are welcome to camp out on the grounds and enjoy the late-nite picking around the campfires. Sorry, no hook-ups are available. We do have room for camping rigs as well as tents. We will continue to allow camping for free if campers respect the grounds and clean up. Campers please note that the SkunkFest is held in a rural community with neighbors close by, no stereos after midnight (Pickers can pick all night, though!).

And it is every bit as awesome as it sounds. Go and check out pictures from past years on the website and you will just get more jealous and jealous.
Add the fact that I have known the Ziegler’s all of my life and grew up less than 3 miles from Skunk Fest. The land is beautiful and your in the heart of the country, camping out with good music, good food and good people. What else can anyone ask for in life?
