The Heist and the Accomplice, Columbia’s own indie tour-de-force, have been around for quite sometime. Before I left Greenville in 2004, I knew this producer and engineer named Crismo (current member in Greenville band East North) who received a demo from this band of 15 year olds, and he told me that I just had to hear them.
Unfortunately, most bands don’t stay together. They try it out for a year or two, settle for a manager position at McDonalds, and disband when they are frustrated with trying to form a following. The Heist and the Accomplice have toughed it out, and as a result have arguably the best following in Columbia, based on a personal score graded on loyalty and whether or not I would want to hang out with said fans.
Little did I know that I would end up in Columbia years later, finding out they really were all the rage. The only difference now is they are older, tighter, and with three albums under their belt.
If you haven’t had the chance to see The Heist and the Accomplice, their show at New Brookland Tavern September 13 is their music video premiere. Opening the night are Chapel Hill’s catchy, swinging rock band Hammer No More Fingers and Richmond’s vintage rock n roll outfit Prabir and the Substitutes. I’ve been a big Prabir fan for a while thanks to WUSC, but they don’t come around often.
