Congratulations to Polar War for winning our Next Big Thing competition.
After the fan vote was in, we had Scene SC staff and independent music critics from around the state rank the top 5 bands. What we ended up with was a tie between Wylie and Polar War. Both bands agreed to a dance off, but we decided on a more diplomatic tie breaker.
Polar War is the winner of free promo pictures from Pat Wright Photography, free rehearsal time from The Mill, free T-Shirts from Image Ink, a guest spot on WXRY this Sunday night and free band posters from The Copy Shop.
We aren’t going to let Wylie walk away empty handed though, they are also the winner of free Promo’s from Pat Wright Photography and free posters from The Copy Shop.
The first Next Big Thing competition was hugely successful in what we designed it to do, which was bring 20 bands and thousands of fans together onto one web page full of music from around the Southeast.
The culmination of the Next Big Thing will take place Saturday September 18th at New Brookland Tavern, where Dance Commander, Polar War, A Brighter Life, Forces of a Street, These Dying Days and Pan will share the stage and bring the music community together.
Thanks to all of the bands that participated, I hope you made some connections with new fans and other bands.
7 Q’s with Polar War
1)      Describe your music for those who aren’t familiar.
I would say our music is a pretty good mix of straight forward rock, with a few lighter melodic songs and some other really heavy ones thrown in.
2)     Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
Brand New, Manchester Orchestra, Maylene, Colour Revolt, Edison Glass
3)     What are some of your favorite parts about the music scene that you come out of? What are some things that you wish you could change about the music scene?
There isn’t really a well established music scene for our style here in Rock Hill, but the clubs we’ve been playing around town have been really open and supportive, as have the other bands we’ve been playing with. As far as improving the music scene, I think people need to remember that if one of us local bands succeed, then we’re more likely to all improve our games. We should definitely have each other’s backs more often instead of talking crap about each other and stepping on others to get ahead.
4)     How did your band get started?
We got started as a couple friends who played in a worship band together getting together to try out some original songs we had been working on individually. It just kind of grew from there and we went through some line-up changes and stylistic changes to get to the sound we’re creating right now.
5)     What are you most excited about for the future of your band?
Right now we’re pumped to be releasing our first full-length CD, Gun, which we recorded with John Naclerio up at Nada Recording in New York. We went through a lot to get that made, and are really happy with how it turned out. As far as more long term future goes, we’re going to try to shop around to some labels and radio stations, as well as trying to book some more shows, to see if we can expand our fan base a little more.
6)     If you could change one thing about the music industry what would it be?
I think the music industry overall is in a pretty tough place. They’re still stuck in a time before music sharing became prevalent, and as a result, they haven’t really been focusing on what’s best for a given band or artist. They want to sign somebody and get rich quick, but with the wide spread use of music sharing sites, that simply won’t work anymore. I really think that given time (and a ton of free downloads) people will get to where they are actually fans of a given band, and will want to pay for their music so that they can continue to make more. I’m not sure if that’s coming across exactly like I see it in my mind, but the bottom line is — the record companies need to have a longer term strategy in which they support artists in the beginning until they make enough of a name for themselves that they will start making that money back.
7)     Who are some of your favorite South Carolina or Regional bands to play with? What band do you think your fans should check out?
From South Carolina, I would have to say my favorite band is Wylie. Their music is great, and it gets stuck in my head for days after I listen to them. Regionally, I would love to play a show with Shotgun Lover. They’re a band out of Nashville that had better get huge, or else there is something wrong with this world.
Dance Commander was robbed. I am so over this site.
It was a Good comp, we all got to hear some new local bands. I cant speak for everyone but I am ten times more likely to go see any of these bands because most were friendly. That is what this was for, Supporting local musicians and making a better music scene around our area. As a fellow, albeit retired musician, you find that the more your music scene grows the more opportunity every musician has to make it big and help others out along the way. GG to everyone, esp to Wylie and the others in the top 5
P.S. nobody likes a Troll
nobody likes to get shafted
I agree!! Dance Commander won the most votes originally. Insane! Isn’t it based on who has the most fans, thats normally how you make it big…
WOW… that’s BS!!! dance commander got MORE VOTES! this is just one more example of how the “SC scene” really is. its a bunch of Indy elitists who are only into obscure music because its OBSCURE! im pretty sure SceneSC’s “judges” are among these self proclaimed elitists. if everything is decided SOLELY on votes from judges, then don’t waste the people’s time with the online voting.
this is all in no offense to Polar War! They seem like nice guys and they have a good sound.
this competition was bogus though
i guess dance commander can still say “VOTED #1 BY READERS OF SCENESC.COM!”
maybe SceneSC should call the next competition… NEXT BIG LET-DOWN!
Fan vote counted in our voting. Dance Commander started off with the most points before other judges votes were counted in.
We love Dance Commander, they were only points from winning. The voting was extremely tight because the bands we were choosing between were all good.
Don’t think we didn’t do this fair. And Polar War lead in voting for most of the time anyway.
You think “indy elitists” are what’s wrong with the “SC scene” but its really close minded negative people like you.
there was only one fair way to hold this competition and it was to let the winner win
the whole idea was to promote your website and the band that did the most for you got the shaft
i cant imagine dance commander’s fans will be very happy with your decision
nothin but love to the other bands. got nothin but respect for you.
Fear not fans of Dance Commander. In a few weeks dance pop will no longer be trendy. You can stop wearing your absurd neon t-shirts and start listening to the next flavor of the week genre. That’s the beauty part of being a 15-year old girl. You like different boys, different malls, different eating disorders, and different music styles every season. When it comes down to it, I think the singer of Dance Commander seems like a really good dude (with a really awesome hairdo), but the band is really a boy band with guitars. It’s like if *NSync was influenced by rock music instead of smooth R&B jams. So buck up kiddos, music isn’t a sport. Get crazy tonight, eat lots of sugar, stay up past 10, practice your kissing, and listen to Dance Commander. So long as that’s still cool. If not, you should check out this local band called Crossfade. They are the future of music.
LOL! You think Crossfade is the FUTURE OF MUSIC??? LOL, You are delusional if you think that. Crossfade has seen it’s day. And you talk about being a fad? Crossfade was a Fad you idiot. Infact, they are a fad that has passed on. They spent 5 years making their first CD and only 6 months making their second. To go a step further, the lead singer of Crossfade is a cracked out loser who spent all of his money all drugs and strippers. The only thing he is able to keep up with is his ridiculous hair. You are a pretty sad individual and your opinion on this competition is worth about as much as your opinion on quality music.
Josh obviously can’t grasp the concept of satire. Get a grip.
kurt—-> well how about this… come out September 18th and see just how “boy-bandish” dance commander really is. oh and leave your 15 year old sister at home this time… wouldn’t want you to get distracted
I agree with Gdogg!
Why would I come out and waste my time listening to a band that is not good. At all. Trust me, I listened to them. In fact, I am right now! Here’s what I hear. A cheesy drum machine, an even cheesier synth line, and then only what I can describe as boy band vocals on top of all that. Really, tell me how they are different than any of the boy bands of the 90’s? Because they play their own instruments? People in O-Town played instruments.
And Random comments are so 2008, put your name with your words.
Haha, case in point…
“Random comments are so 2008″…this website is so pre-Dance Commander.
Thanks for bending the winners over. Real classy move.
how disappointing. dc should have won. ridiculous.
This organization is loosing all credibility by the actions it has taken against Columbia’s Local Music Fan Base. Allowing a winner to be determined by a number of fan votes and then disregarding the COMMUNITY by “playing favorites” is unethical and pitiful. Scene SC must believe that we are all incompetent imbeciles by thinking that this insult will go unnoticed. The next competition will surely be of low quality bands now that the “Actual Musicians” know what the “Real Deal” is. Please feel free to respond to this message.
– Josh
Please explain how Scene SC is losing all of it’s credibility by bringing positive attention to all of the bands in this competition? Who played favorites? The “COMMUNITY” wasn’t blindsided, those votes were taken into account and most of the Scene SC staffers had barely any idea who Polar War was until we got this show on the road, and that was the point of the competition– to bring notice to bands that needed it. To do something for the music scene that dim witted people like you think we’re bringing down. Tell me how you’re not proving you are an “incompetent imbecile” by leaving such a hateful comment?
The Columbia music scene needs positive energy, not hateful feedback from people who feel gypped. All Scene SC does is strive to help the underdogs, and you cannot say otherwise.
Jump off your high horse.
wow… josh was right. ignoring the community votes (over 6000) and just picking who you like is a slap in the face to the voters.
if this was supposed to be a friendsly competition then why are so many people pissed about it?
i call this a “wake up call” …SC says don’t ignore us
You say one thing and do another. That is called not telling the truth. People who do not tell the truth loose credibility. Please let me know if you disagree with that statement. I don’t know for certain if Scene SC played favorites, but that is exactly what it looks like has been done. Does Scene SC think that the Local Music Community is not competent enough to know what good music is? Please let us know what you think of us.
scroll down and check out S. Mannings comment. sit down, maybe grab a glass of water, take it all in.
Actually, I think Scene SC thinks you are an incompetent imbecile because you are so upset that a band that sounds like a 3rd rate version of Metro Station lost. Josh, I bet you a really rad dude, but I’m guessing the people who comprised the panel were adults who aren’t so quick to be seduced by the sexy sounds of a synth. Serious note Josh, I’m going to the Dutch Fork game tonight and I want to look badass. Should I wear my neon pink shirt, or my neon green shirt. Or should I stick to the tank top. Your reply is appreciated. Also, before I forget, should I listen to Breathe Carolina going to the game? Does that get you as crunk as it gets me?
ummmm actually you are the one spreading all the hate. quit doggin the band. they didnt do anything wrong.
its about who got the most votes
ps kurt… i say go with the one that’s more sophisticated. you need every inch you can get after a dumb-ass statement like that
So, let me know. Do you think that a person is defined by the type of sounds they here? I choose to listen to Dragon Force because of the intricate and aggressive riffs. I listen to BOB the R&b artist because his music is catchy and his lyrics are up lifting. I listen to Paramore for how progressive and that her voice is amazing. I also love Slipknot, Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Thrice, Fall Out Boy, The Cab, Disturbed (early), Semisonic, 3rd Eye Blind, and Breathe Carolina. So tell me, based on the type of music i listen to. What should I wear to the game?
If you’re trying to give yourself some credibility in the future, I wouldn’t mention Slipknot, Disturbed, The Cab or Breathe Carolina. Two date rap mosh metal bands, and two other boy bands with guitars. By the way, I’m guessing you should wear some baggy cargo shorts, a wife beater and a backwards Yankees hat to the game based on Slipknot and Disturbed alone.
By the way, over the years Fall Out Boy and Thrice have played Columbia and Taking Back Sunday and Brand New played NBT together. Were you out there supporting Columbia’s music scene with me then? I think in almost every case a local band opened.
Is it just me or is it an insult to Polar War to just hand them the win they didn’t earn? It’s like “here, we know you didn’t win…but, we really like you and kinda pity you”
scenesc=fail
The polls were to get 5 bands with allot of fans to vote, that would be a good way to judge who was popular. The point behind the staff choosing a winner was probably because online polls cant be 100% accurate. Like some people have said they can be a popularity contest so any schmuck with a computer can get people to click a link. Talent, respect for other bands and drive go allot farther than how many friends you have on facebook.in my opinion scene sc staffers choosing a winner out of the three most popular was a solid, and fair choice.
but their choice is biased. the more people that vote, the less variation and less bias there is. if you don’t see this then take a stats class at your local college/university.
i’d say try a different approach next time
I dont remember the actual number for the winner but lets assume around 1400 / 30 days of voting = 46.6 assuming most bands have 3 to 4 members 46.6 / 3.5 = 13 we can low ball that each of those members probably has 2friend 2family and 1 from the community votes that would mean you would only need 2 random votes per day for each member of your band ( these have been rounded of course) so if you played any shows, showed anyone your music and asked them to listen, had any fans, told people in your class, posted it on your facebook, voted for yourself, or someone just stumbled across your myspace in the last month or so, you could have been number one or top 5. And of course there is a bias. Its a poll (based on popularity so there has to be some kind of bias) and unless you know how the voting of the staffers was conducted, or know another way to vote on something you like the best(bias in itself). please contact your local “stats class at your local college/university.”
wow… you really don’t understand how stats work. its ok. i don’t really expect you to.
ps… you’re talkin to the guy who got and A in his USC stats class
Wow! An A in a USC stats class, everyone get the fuck out of Gdogg’s way because that kid is going places!
Then by all means enlighten everyone with your brilliance.
In the name of clarity everyone needs to go back and read how the top band was chosen.
Each band that was in the top five was given a number of points that correlated to where they ranked in the voting.
Then the top five were sent to independent music critics across the state and a select few Scene SC staffers. They then ranked the bands and the bands and whoever had the most points, won.
And if you don’t think that’s fair, then I don’t really know what to tell you. Start your own blog? From the beginning of the competition the rules said that the winner would be chosen not by votes alone.
Listen Hon, as a Scene SC staffer (who had no say in who won) I am willing to place my first born on the line to say this competition was 100% fair.
David doesn’t take this lightly and wanted the competition reflect the absolute winner. And it does.
Most of the staff had never heard of many bands in the competition (including Polar War for those of you playing the ” scene sc plays favorites” card) and we were delighted in the fresh talent that we all love listening to now.
I’m happy with the way the competition turned out, but I am disappointed in the reaction and hate that people are throwing out. I expected more from the music community I’ve come to love.
Oh and if you’d like to discuss this more, we’d love to have you at the house show tonight.
Email me at Ashleigh@scenesc.com and I’ll be happy to give you directions
Yo dude, I would be commenting more, but I’m driving to a music festival to promote South Carolina music and bands.
We booked some touring bands at our house tonight, go have some healthy music arguments there.
Seriously, all of you, come to the house show. I’d be happy to welcome you into my humble abode and have a discussion about all of this. (plus it’s going to be an awesome show)
I wish everyone could grasp that we are going above and beyond to make this music community a positive family and you’re doing nothing but shitting on it by not having any faith in the blatantly obvious.
How dare any of you ungrateful pricks try to rip Scene SC on this. They supported us when no one in Columbia knew who we were & I will never forget that. They are truely a blessing. It doesn’t even matter who wins. If you’re competing in art then you’re losing. Prove everyone wrong and work your asses off and determine your own fate.
I agree with Josh. This whole competition was biased toward the same cookie cutter indie bands. Nobody got any love for hardcore bands like These Dying Days? That’s who should have won. But alas, this wasn’t a popularity contest. Or was it. Wait. I’m confused.
Oh and crossfade was not a fad, it was a poor decision made by people in SC. Its happened before and it’ll happen again. Usually to more press each time. So if you want, just say that the results of this were just that, a bad decision.
P.s. I in no way am angered about the results or SceneSC’s stance on hardcore. We in TDD didn’t expect to win but jumped at the opportunity to get our name back out there. We love SceneSC and all they are doing for the Columbia music scene. We are bummed that we had to drop out from the showcase.
P.S.S
I know sarcasm can be hard to tell on the internet, but when someone tells you yo check out Crossfade you MUST know that they are kidding.
Honestly i did not know he was kidding. I wouldn’t have responded the way i had if i had know that. You’re though, sarcasm is hard to notice when when reading a simple text.
Did they really win the popular vote, but their “so called” music critics votes counted more than the actual scene? It kind of reminds me why I never voted for a presidential election. It doesn’t matter who I want to win, the band was picked from the start.
Good job hosting a “fair” competition Scene SC. 6000+ votes (if its true) would put Scene SC’s judging style, wayyyyy off the mark. Your website officially sucks now, no offense to polar war, you guys are great.
Ashleigh took the words out of my mouth. Most of us did not know who Polar War was, and many of the other bands are actually friends of ours. So there goes the “playing favorites” idea.
As for the “indy elitist” comment, the SceneSC staff is not biased, it is made up of many people who have different tastes in music but come together because we all enjoy and support ALL music.
We appreciate the fans who actually took the time to understand the contest, who are supporters of local music in it’s entirety, and respect all of the other bands in the contest. Thank you for your votes and for supporting your friends, family & local music.
It’s not about us or any other website or organization. It’s about passion & support. If some people can’t see that, and think we are the problem, I hope they are at least doing something better than we are, or they could give positive feedback instead of negative to help make things better for everyone. Bickering over the internet is not a productive way of helping yourself, your friends, or anyone who you think is doing something wrong. If you actually have a concern, come to us. Questions can be answered & your opinion really matters, as cliche as that may sound to you.
If you think this competition was created to self-promote SceneSC and no one else, you may be an idiot.
I’m sure that most of the people who visited the site because of the competition didn’t know that some of these bands existed. Sounds like the musicians are being promoted, which was the entire idea. There’s also going to be a showcase of some of these bands to further promote the musicians and to bring the scene together. I love playing shows with bands I’ve never met just like anyone likes meeting people with similar interests to them. It’s for fun.
This is not Blender or Pitchfork. The site doesn’t live off of opinionated judges. It promotes information on the music coming out of this state. Someone’s gotta do it, and I think that David Stringer’s done a damn good job of it. SceneSC has been the longest lasting local website centered on music. So shut the hell up criticizing David, especially if you know nothing and are making wild baseless claims.
As far as the winning of the competition and who should’ve won: If you’re a real music lover, then you’ll appreciate the opportunity to hear the talent that surrounds you. Not bitch about who won the title.
Wanna call someone out for anything negative? call me out. bakarilebby@gmail.com
Kurt,
Is there something wrong with that? If everything you’re hearing is in reality true…So what?
Am I too old if I like Crossfade?
I can’t believe Rejectioneers didn’t win. After all of their hard work, they deserve to win. TheY obviously hold the most “over 30” votes that didn’t get sent because there wasn’t an SMS voting system! Unfair, biased, & unpatriotic. Our church will be burning the Scene SC website this Sunday. All are welcome!
Being the drummer of Wylie and all… I’d definitely have to say this was unbelievably fair. We received word that there was a tie between Wylie and Polar War… and for David to even let Polar War know that they were tied, he had to ask ME for their numbers… haha…
Aside from all of that, David thanks for booking the scene SC show the same night as our show in charleston!!! way to miss the greatest show in a South Carolina generation.
haha love you guys! CONGRATS TO POLAR WAR!
-Ryan
p.s. if they were going to play favorites.. we would have won!
I don’t think scenesc played favorites. Perhaps these music-people judges “played favorites”. Who really knows? Who knows who these judges even are? scenesc does. Scenesc DID say their staff would select the winner. So that’s where it got a bit hairy.
On another note…I don’t really care who won or who deserved to win as much as a lot of people seem to. I’m very happy for polar war. I’m happy for rock hill (I went to Winthrop). But I think those of you putting down dc because they sound like an imitation of metrostation are full of it. Have you seen these guys live? They put on a killer show. I’ve seen them at the money several times and at nbt. As people, they probably enjoy the same genre of music that most of you do. As musicians, they just happen to enjoy playing music that they think is fun to play. They aren’t trying to preach their views. They aren’t trying to make you stroke your beard and walk away enlightened. It’s obvious these guys are there to have fun and provide an awesome time for the crowd. Speaking of the crowd… So what if young kids are into them? There’s a huge demographic to be met there. If I played in a band I’d rather have 500 high schoolers pack a place out (with money from their parents to buy merch) than 40 young adults who will pass over the merch table. DC is likely looking at their band as a fun business that allows them to do what they love – play music and entertain people.
Go watch these guys on Saturday. See what you think afterward. They aren’t really as electro-trendy as you might be thinking they are.
The reason we didn’t let some of our staffers vote is because they promoted bands in the competition and we didn’t think that would be fair. We also thought it would be good to get the vote of some people that had never heard any of the bands before.
Truth is we are friends with a lot of people in a lot of the bands in the competition. And it is also true that we made a lot of new friends through the competition. We just had Commerce down here for a show last week and those guys are kind and grateful and wonderful musicians. I got to hang out with Pan tonight at Homemade Genius and those guys are great too. So yeah I guess we are biased. That’s what happens when you work with good people. Scene SC developed really great relationships with most of these bands because of this competition.
So I’ve been reading these comments and this has gotten pretty nasty. I will say that yes, SceneSC did explicitly say that out of the top five, they would vote on a winner. And the top five bands had a really amazing sound, especially Polar War (and even bands that didn’t make the top five like “Death of Paris”. However, you can see how cheated my band feels when we had the most votes. A backlash from our fans was only to be expected I think. In any case, I just wanted to let SceneSC know that I’m not mad, but I’m very disappointed about how you went about choosing a winner. I read your voting criteria and I’m still very confused about the “statistical” approach you guys took. It’s quite vague, and I can see why some of our fans are angry and confused about it….I know I am….
Can’t wait for Saturday… IF YOU GOT THE MOVES, I GOT THE HEAT!!!
If you don’t like fun concerts and entertaining catch phrases THEN TAKE YO BROKE AS HOME!!!
***ASS*** …PHONICS 🙂
TJ, it’s this simple. The fans picked the top 5 bands, we picked the winner out of those bands.
You mean, your non biased judges picked the winner right David? Again my point is made valid that SceneSC is not being clear about how they chose a winner. I’m not trying to be a jerk, I’m just trying to get a straight answer.
Who are we being biased towards?
Fans narrowed the vote down from 20 bands to 5 and then we chose the winner out of those top 5 bands.
Would a non biased judge be someone from out of town that had never heard of any of the bands? Because 2/5 judges were those people.
David I never said anything about you being biased.
A non-biased judge would not be a member of SceneSC staff. You said that 5 non-biased judges helped select the winner earlier in the thread. So, when you said, and I quote:
“TJ, it’s this simple. The fans picked the top 5 bands, we picked the winner out of those bands.
If “We” = SceneSC then I was quite confused…did SceneSC pick the winner, or did the judges pick the winner? You are contradicting yourself, which is the whole purpose of my argument.
AWESOME JOB POLAR WAR! CONGRATS MY BOYS!
Sorry ppl. They were the best. also dont worry about it. ITS SOUTH CAROLINA. the Music scene here sucks as it is and you’ve all only contributed to the music that makes the citizens of south Carolina want to jump off a bridge.
except polar war that is…and every other band that isnt whining.
Man, I’m just ready to play Saturday!
Me too…gotta show those haters how we rock out with our glocks out.
Not trying to make this be argumentative of what you just said manning, but we will do our best…. And I think KC put it well. We aren’t trying to make you stroke your beard and walk away enlightened. It’s really about having a good time.
Manning, sorry about my latest comment. I was checking the comments on my phone and when I use the mobile feature it doesn’t put the comments in the correct order. Therefore, it appeared that you said the “enlighten us with your brilliance” bit as a reply to TJ saying he was wanting to rock out on saturday night. My bad.
– Kevin
I liked most of the bands; there was some real talent here.
However I am very disappointed in the scenesc staff.
It’s funny.. maybe in 2012 we should hand over the candidates for president to the supreme court for the justices to decide which one is their favorite.
After all, the most important opinion isn’t the majorities, it’s the higher power, right?
Right on. Next time, we all just won’t vote so you guys can sit up on your high chairs and play favorites.
I’ll see everyone at NBT Saturday.
haha the supreme court did decide the president… back in 2000
Dylan, last time I checked the fans picked the top 5 bands. Sorry that your ignorance is an issue. The rules were clearly spelled out before the contest started. I’m very disappointed in you.
How about this, 2012 Next Big Thing will be between Band of Horses, Toro Y Moi, Darius Rucker, Crowfield, Patrick Davis, Villanova, Needtobreathe and whoever else from SC takes off within the next year.
I am fully aware that the fans voted for the top five bands, but what was the point?
Your staff got the last say in the competition which totally defeats the purpose of this entire poll.
The winners didn’t win, keep defending yourself if it makes you feel better but it’s the truth.
One of the major purposes of letting fans vote was to expose fans of Wylie to Dance Commander and to expose fans of Dance Commander to Commerce and to expose fans of The Dirty White to Polar War etc etc
Sharing fans is key to creating a music community.
This contest was run very similar to how other battle of the bands are run. Most are half fan vote, half judges vote. Just because you have the most people there to see your band doesn’t mean you are going to win.
Same scenario here.
David, I don’t think Dylan was ignorant about the voting process. He just wasn’t praising the way you ran it. The point here is that you should have had the foresight to realize people were going to challenge your judges’ opinions.
In terms of a “popularity contest” – to debunk all of that mess. Um, hello.. The most popular band should win. That means they are the “next big thing”. If another band isn’t ready to enter a contest because they don’t have enough fans then they should not enter a contest that consist in whole (or in part) of fan voting.
You guys should have picked the top 5 from the start. There would have been less issues.
OR you should not have a “next-big-thing” contest but rather a contest for musical integrity and musical value. Generally the bands that would win that type of contest would not become “the next BIG thing” in any sense of the phrase.
“next big thing” implies popularity.
I am not hating on you for your love of the scene and creating a music community. I praise your efforts. Thanks for all you do.
Very true. I’ve learned of new bands for sure. Fan sharing is a great concept… But now there are a lot of people turned off to one another. A contest may not be the best way to share fans though. It fires people up for who they want. If one of your big goals was to promote fan sharing then it should have been stated that you wanted to achieve that. We are dealing with the public here… Most people are one-dimensional on certain things and fight for what they believe in.
I hope people remain in good spirits at the show. It’d be a shame to have something that was meant to pull everyone together actually backfire. David, I haven’t lost faith in you. But I hope I don’t see booing or people bringing others down at the show.
I have no doubt that the show will be anything but positive. I’m more worried about fans of the bands being at the 7 PM football game than at New Brookland.
It will be fun, most of the negativity is directed towards me anyway. Maybe my car will get keyed or something cool like that. All of the bands get along fine, and the fans aren’t mad at any of the other bands.
Maybe we’ll put a big target on the scene sc banner so people can throw tomatoes at it.
Or maybe a kissing booth with Kurt Rambis.
Good stuff KC… and David, I wouldn’t worry about your car. Our fans are not as mad as you may think. Their just playing big brother (Don’t worry guys, I still love you!). We are excited about Saturday! GO USC & I HOPE EVERYONE COMES OUT TO SEE DANCE COMMANDER AFTER THE GAME!!!
ps: COME SEE THE WHOLE SHOW IF YOU CAN!!!
Ha. Good stuff. Although I hope that really doesn’t happen. About the game – I know right…It’s a parents’ day game against Furman for crying out loud. I’m betting on USC. The nbt show will prove much more exciting.
Polar War won because they were better. Get the fuck over it.
The more we cuss, the cooler we are
Wow, either Dance Commander has the most vocal fans, or they really are the true champ. Either way, music battles should be made in concert and not online, so may the true King/Queen reign in the rhythm.
I do not enjoy the insults given to SceneSC, however, especially those against David Stringer. SceneSC has provided a good opportunity in promoting the music of up-and-comers without expense to those of us who want to learn. If you want a better way, then you create your own website and provide the necessary tools in promoting music. Otherwise, continue listening to your fave music and stop leaving whiny insults and bickerings like a bunch of kindergartners. Props to SceneSC in making this music accessible to all. Even if they didn’t crown the People’s Champion. 😉
