Scene SC Presents:
$5 Over 21 / $7 Under 21
Indie / Rock
To celebrate the end of our first Next Big Thing contest we’ll be bringing some of the bands together for a show this Saturday night including our winners Polar War and Dance Commander who led in the fan vote.
Polar War-Via Pat Wall at the Free Times
Fresh-faced Rock Hill quintet Polar War won SceneSC’s “Next Big Thing” competition, though not without some controversy. But its win certainly wasn’t without merit: Polar War’s tuneful alt-rock is built on the same kind of dramatic tension and cathartic release that made Manchester Orchestra and Colour Revolt buzzed-about bands. Polar War isn’t the only young, up-and-coming band on this bill: Dance Commander, A Brighter Life, Pan and Forces of a Street also play. P. Wall
Dance Commander thinks they have something to prove Saturday night, but anyone that has seen them live knows they put on a high energy rocking show. Since adding Jeff and TJ (O’ Verona/Cities Apart) to the band they’ve added a level of on the scene experience and a live performance element that steps up what they were before. Come check out in person why the fans voted them first.
While we only had one official winner, every band benefited from the extra exposure. Opening the show will be Paul Brazell who has worked tirelessly to help out the music scene and get his name out. Brazell plays a Skeltonesque type of pop rock that is honest to himself and his influences.
What was Justin Schmidt’s solo project has now become a band that will bring his smooth electronic sounds live. Forces of a Street currently has their 5 Song EP up for free download on their site.
A Brighter Life has made their presence on the music scene known in a fast way, releasing a 3 song EP and playing high energy pop punk shows. They’ll also be playing at our Breakedge event this Tuesday with Versus the Robot.
If you’ve had your ears open around town lately, you might have heard people talking about Pan. They’ve been working hard promoting their band through the Next Big Thing and it’s starting to pay off. They have a high profile show opening for Scene SC faves All Get Out, O’Brother and Death on Two Wheels coming at the end of the month. And yes, I have heard the 8 minute song. It’s epic.
This show should be free to all the bands who entered the contest. that’s pretty fair.
People who play the show aren’t going to pay to get in. Trust me.
