Starting Wednesday, the Tapp’s Arts Center in downtown Columbia will host a series of Grand Opening events after a year of construction. Wednesday’s event will start at 12:30 p.m. and will feature a ribbon cutting by Mayor Steve Benjamin and other City Council Members. Thursday, Tapp’s will continue their first Thursdays on Main series featuring artists, window instillation and live music.
While the Tapp’s Arts Center is just now officially opening, they have been under a soft opening for months. Most recently playing host to shows from Richard Buckner on October 6 and more recently a punk show with The Mercy Shot, 400 Blows, Hex Machine, Gottheit, and Aphatos.
What used to be a department store, the Tapp’s Art Center has been transformed over the last 12 months to now host 30 artists’ studios, performance space, and exhibit space in their 22,000 square foot facility.

 All new window installations by: Susan Lenz, Ernest Lee, Rogers Boykin, Keith Tolen, Thomas Washington, Mathew John, Ron Ferguson “Gritsman”, Alex Smith, Mario Sunday Rudd, and Deanna Rennick.
 Music by: Pan, King Amin, & members of the cast of Spring Awakening from Trustus Theater. Mind Gravy will be held in the Fountain Room.
