SceneSC and Stereofly will never get along. We can’t. While their mission is so similar to ours, there will always be one thing that holds us back from being friends in the web world. We love the fact that more websites are popping up to cover local music across the Southeast. Since we became a website we’ve watched The Blue Indian, WeAreTheUpstate, Stereofly, and The Weekly Monitor be born. Shuffle Magazine is now putting more of a focus on their web presence so that is also a big addition to the coverage opportunities in the Carolinas these days. Add to that the alt weeklies around the state like Free Times and Charleston City Paper and we’ve really got a great media web going. Go even further and add Jasper Magazine, Undefined, Charleston Mag, Greenville Mag, Charleston Scene all having solid music coverage. Have you noticed how much music coverage Garden and Gun has? Their southern music sampler is top notch.
So what does all of this really mean? It means there is more competition, and that’s great. We all want the story, we all want something exclusive and know bands have that many more outlets to reach potential fans. I know for us personally it keeps us forward thinking and trying to figure out what we can do next. The bottom line is that it’s great for the music scene.
So here is what it comes down to. Stereofly is a great website with loads of potential. I wish we could be blog friends. It’s something that keeps me up at night that we can’t. Because as long as we’re WordPress and they are Drupal, we’ll never get along.
I love me some SceneSC! One day you’ll come to the Dark/Drupal side. Thanks for the compliment, it was good seeing you out last night at Conundrum. Perhaps we can find a way to be friends…I think we can make it happen.
