Earlier this year we had King Vulture in for a Papa Jazz session where they performed two stripped down versions of “Change” and “Aliens Who Pass”. Watching those performances beside our new full band video matches the complexities of their debut album. These sessions are chaotic and full of energy at times showcasing the full breadth of the band. Shot at the new Indie Grits Labs off North Main Street in Columbia, SC the session ties in with King Vulture’s upcoming performance at the annual Indie Grits festival which has grown from a film festival, to a festival full of cultural events, art, music, video games, and of course films. In total Indie Grits will feature 30 bands and 83 films in 2018 over 4 days.
Over the last couple of months especially we’ve been searching for places to shoot live sessions like this. We were lucky to find out about Indie Grits Labs and have the opportunity to film there. Over that weekend we got to film two sessions, Saturday with King Vulture seen here and Sunday with Danger Boy who also plays the festival. We hope this will be a long running series showcasing local music and working with Indie Grits Labs and embracing their dedication to serve art and community from across the Southeast.
