While shooting Stop Light Observations during their headline set at New Brookland Tavern, a fan tapped me on the shoulder, mistaking me for the band’s photographer. When I told her I contributed to SceneSC, she immediately started asking if I’d seen them before and mentioned that tonight felt mellow compared to the other six shows she’d been to. That pretty much summed up the night—an easygoing, fully swayable mix of electronic pop and soulful rock.
With the neon glow setting the mood in an already intimate venue, the packed crowd leaned into the music, most fans up front having seen the band at least once—maybe more. The kind of show where you close your eyes, let the sound take over, and if you think about it too hard, you might just drift into a dreamlike, psychedelic haze.
Charleston’s own Stop Light Observations felt right at home with their openers, Winyah, hailing from Georgetown/Pawleys Island. Another night of glowing lights, a crowd that knew exactly why they were there, and long merch lines—the good kind.
