The Useful Fiction — Resolution

For this installment of the “I Love My Friends” sessions, The Useful Fiction performs “Resolution.” Performed by Matt Warthen and Adam Jones, the song was filmed in front of the mural at the former Hunter-Gatherer building on South Main Street, a place that holds years of history for Warthen.

Warthen once lived across the street and spent years there, often ending up inside after closing. “They would let us in after closing time and pour us one half beer after another for what we put in the tip jar,” he writes.

For a long stretch, Hunter-Gatherer was part of everyday life. In the video, Warthen shares that it’s also where he met his wife. After being there nearly every night for years, he eventually drifted away and would return only occasionally. Before the building was torn down, he brought his kids there one last time to eat.

“Resolution,” he says, “is about personal growth and meeting people where they are.”
